Destinations in Tainan City

The Tainan is starting point of Taiwanese history. In fact, the name Taiwan came from Tayouan (大員), an ancient settlement located in the modern day Anping district.

Throughout history Tainan has always been a very important city in Taiwan, and has served as the capital of Taiwan in her early history. Here you can find the footprints left by the Dutch and Japanese colonist as well as dynastic remains from Chinese Ming and Qin empire.

Destinations in Greater Tainan

In 2010 Tainan City and Tainan County was combined to form the Tainan today. For in-depth travel, you might want to get out of the city and take a look around greater Tainan. Since modern day Taiwanese districts are divisions of districts from Japanese colonial time (which meets the geographical and cultural aspect of the region), we will introduce the destinations in the region according to old Japanese districts.
